In love, it is a relationship that needs time to ripen. You have just started dating, or two people who have long known each other are sizing each other up before taking a step further. Rush for a definite answer and the other steps back. Trust the time you have built together and wait a little longer, and it leads to a good result.
Seven of Pentacles: Card Meaning
Reading It Upright and Reversed
Seven of Pentacles · Minor Arcana · Pentacles · Seven
The Seven of Pentacles is the card of a farmer pausing to watch the growth of carefully tended crops; upright, it means a time to calmly review the methods used so far rather than rushing results, enduring the time it takes for the fruit to ripen.
A young farmer leans at a slant with both hands stacked on the handle of his hoe. Six pentacles hang like fruit on the lush bush in front, and the remaining one lies on the soil at his feet. Hands that diligently tilled the land are resting for a moment now.
Neither pride nor discouragement can be read in the farmer’s face. It is the look of someone who has grown things this far and is weighing the next move. It is a face only someone who has planted seeds by hand can make, so the picture shows a moment of straightening up to catch one’s breath in the middle of unfinished work.
The Seven of Pentacles appeared. How long must I wait?
This card points to the present state rather than a deadline. The fruit has formed but is still unripe, so assuming about half again the time invested so far is usually right. Not sitting idle while waiting but checking in now and then is the way true to this card. If you see signs of growth every time you check, that patience is never in vain.
Seven of Pentacles: Love
Weary of waiting, impatience grows. You press for a sure answer, or conversely try to end the relationship saying you gained nothing. If you are considering a breakup, let it sit for a day to see whether the thought came on a day when emotions surged. If you feel the same after a few days, then that judgment is right.
Seven of Pentacles: Money
In money, funds you have buried have not yet borne fruit. Savings plans, investments and startup funds in preparation fall here. Rather than swinging between joy and sorrow over interim returns, keeping to the period you first set is better. But I recommend redoing the math carefully once this time.
Returns are not as much as expected, so you grow impatient. It is a time when it is easy to make reckless decisions trying to recover losses, so hold off for a while at least on decisions that increase amounts. Now, rather than putting in more, pointing out one by one the holes where money leaks comes first.
Seven of Pentacles: Work
In work, it is a time when the project rounds the halfway mark. There are no results worth reporting yet, but the foundation is being steadily laid. Leaving the progress so far in documents becomes a track record intact later. If you are weighing a job change, first check whether you have taken everything you should from your current job.
You see no results, so you are anxious. It is a time when quality easily scatters if you force out results. Rather than piling on more work, look back at how you work. Even with the same time put in, there is clearly a point that divides results, and putting effort into finding it is to your advantage now.

Seven of Pentacles Upright
If upright, now is not the time to harvest but to wait for ripening. It may feel stifling that you hold nothing in hand compared with the time poured in, but the picture tells you the fruit is not yet ripe. Clear it away hastily here, and the water and fertilizer you put in fly away with it. Watching a little longer is itself the wise choice now.
But this does not mean sit idle. The farmer stopped work in order to look closely. It is a signal to take this chance to sort out where and how much effort you put in over the last few months, and among those, what is shooting up and what is standing still. Distinguish where to keep watering from where to fold at this point, and next season’s load becomes much lighter.
Seven of Pentacles Reversed
Reversed, the waiting collapses. You hastily pick unripe fruit, or turn over the whole field saying there are no results. Sometimes the harvest truly is lacking, but often it is not that effort fell short, but that the land planted did not suit the crop.
So the reversal is often read as a call to re-examine the road you are on. Holding on to the same method longer may not be the solution. If it is hard to explain in one sentence what result the work you are holding will return in a few months, it is better to change methods at that point. Turning over a field and moving seedlings to other land are plainly different things.
Something to Try the Day This Card Appears
Today, pick one thing among what you are clinging to that has dragged on for three months or more, and write in three lines what has actually changed in that time. If there is content to write, just carry on. If it is hard to fill all three lines, that is exactly the point where you need to change methods.
