The charge of a rearing horse

Knight of Wands: Card Meaning
Reading It Upright and Reversed

Knight of Wands  ·  Minor Arcana · Wands · Knight

The Knight of Wands shows an armoured knight riding a horse rearing on its hind legs, staff held upright as he charges. Upright, it means bold challenge and adventure, and changes such as moving house or workplace.

The horse already has its front legs in the air, and the rider leans forward holding his staff upright. A long red plume streams behind his helmet. The surcoat over his armour is covered with the salamander, said to live in fire. The background is dry sand as in the Page card, but in this picture nothing stands still.

What catches the eye is speed itself. Where he is going is not drawn, but the direction he faces is clear. So it reads not as setting out because of a watertight plan, but because he has already made up his mind inside. Knight cards also read as people, pointing to someone who moves at once when decided and heats up easily but cannot settle in one place.

If I drew the Knight of Wands, is it all right to decide now?

This card raises its hand for acting. But what it promises is not a good ending but a change in the situation. It means that once you step out, the stagnant game will ripple one way or another, so if something has frustrated you by standing still, deciding is better. Even so, do not bet so much at once that you cannot undo it; draw first the line of what you can afford to lose, then set out, and you will take only the good side of this card.

Knight of Wands: Love

Upright

A thrilling connection moves forward in the blink of an eye. They close the distance in great strides, or you are the one reaching out first. Things heat up in an instant, so as well as the thrill, check whether your daily rhythms match, and it will last.

Reversed

It starts like fire and then contact nearly stops. Often it is less that affection faded than that there was never a plan to last. If you use whether the next meeting actually gets written on the calendar as your yardstick, the situation becomes clear.

Knight of Wands: Money

Upright

A spread where you catch an opportunity and profit by moving fast. It is the kind you miss if you hesitate, so speed is your weapon. But fix the upper limit of what you will put in before you move, and the cleanup is easier.

Reversed

It is easy to lose money through impulse spending or hasty investment. It is a time when the vow of just this once repeats again and again. Leaving a large purchase in your cart overnight and reopening it in the morning filters out most of it.

Knight of Wands: Work

Upright

A time that needs driving force, and that role falls to the person who drew this card. It includes trips out of town, outside postings and transfers to another team. If you produce results quickly while letting people know how far you have come, there will be no friction.

Reversed

Requests for fixes come back on the parts you rushed. Jumping to the next thing without finishing tangles management too. Before taking on a new task, confirm in writing when the current work counts as done.

Knight of Wands Upright

Charging ahead · adventure · moving on

If it lies upright, it is time not to weigh things but to set out. A decision is made on something you hesitated over for ages, and almost at the same moment your body dashes out first. Often your actual dwelling changes, as when you pack for a new home or switch companies. Moving fast, you end up half a beat ahead of those around you, so explanations may be needed later.

The strength of this energy is that it shakes up a stuck game. Even a long-stagnant problem starts to stir when someone throws themselves in. Still, the hooves are only in the air and have not landed. Go, but decide in advance the way back and the minimum you can spend, and something will remain in your hands even after the heat dies down.

Knight of Wands Reversed

Recklessness · fickleness · quitting halfway

Reversed, haste makes you forget the destination. You rush in skipping what needed checking and pay unexpected costs, or pull out the moment circumstances shift slightly on something you had vouched for. It is a period when the trouble is less how fast you decide than how fast you change your mind.

The strength to stay in one place weakens too. The heat of the start cools in the middle, you push the finishing onto others, and when that piles up your reputation suffers regardless of skill. Once you see through to the end the very first of the things you started, the strength leaking in every direction gathers into one stream again.

Something to Try the Day This Card Appears

Before today ends, start one of the tasks you have shelved. Do not wait until preparation is eighty percent full; take the first move with only the information you have now. But before you go, be sure to write down one deadline: the date by which you will stop if there is no result.
