A time when you need to state your position clearly in the relationship. It may be a scene of holding firm to your choice of this person even if family or friends object. Or it may be a situation where you must clearly say stop when the other person crosses a line. A steady attitude actually makes the relationship stronger.
Seven of Wands: Card Meaning
Reading It Upright and Reversed
Seven of Wands · Minor Arcana · Wands · Seven
The Seven of Wands shows a figure standing alone on a high hill, fending off six staffs thrusting up from below. Upright, it means an attitude of firmly holding your ground even under pressure from every side.
A person standing on a hilltop holds a staff at a slant to block what comes from below. Six staffs rise from the bottom of the frame, but the owners of the hands gripping them are not visible. His mismatched shoes also catch the eye. He has rushed out to face them with no time to get ready.
The key to this picture is the height of the ground. They are six and he is one, but he holds the higher ground. It means he has already secured a good position, so this scene is closer to a defensive fight than a losing one. It is a card that appears when the footing to hold out is in place.
I got the Seven of Wands. Is it all right to keep holding out here?
The position of the figure holding the hilltop is the clue. If it is a place you built with your own strength, there is plenty of reason to endure, and the situation improves as the days go by. But if it is hard to say in one sentence what you are protecting, the first step is to decide afresh what to hold on to. In the end, the question this card asks is not whether to endure but why.
Seven of Wands: Love
Tired of a relationship where only you make the effort, your heart slowly cools. It is the pattern where the one who endured and adjusted lets go silently one day. Before it explodes, tell them specifically where it is hard. It is good to decide together which of the things you have been straining to hold can be put down.
Seven of Wands: Money
A period of plugging money that is trying to leak out. Even if family events, repair costs and group fees come all at once, you can hold out as long as you do not exceed the limit you set. You will also need to shake your head at acquaintances asking for loans or tempting product pitches. What fattens your account now is not a talent for growing money but the stubbornness to protect it.
Places you had sealed tight spring leaks one by one. You push back money due now, and next month’s bill swells. Gritting your teeth will not fill the hole, so actually cancel one of the fixed costs that leave every month. First list the spending you can cut and decide what to drop first.
Seven of Wands: Work
You cast the lone dissenting vote, or end up facing many people because of the standards you are responsible for. Pressure may come from every side, but you are the one holding the evidence. Do not try to turn people around in one go; explain calmly, again and again. Hold out through this period, and the principle you defended becomes the team’s standard.
Answering a flood of requests, the day flies by. The work you accepted because you could not refuse piles up like a tower, and your real job gets pushed back. Trying harder will not solve it now. Find one line on your to-do list you can hand off or push to next week, and actually cross it off today.

Seven of Wands Upright
A time when it becomes clear what you must protect. Hands reaching for the results you built, the standards you set and the place set aside as yours come from several directions. Accepting that you cannot please everyone actually gives you strength. It is not a card that stirs up fights. It tells you to first draw the line you absolutely cannot give up.
You may look outnumbered, but the situation is fine. The experience and standing you have built have put you on the hill, after all. Even if objections rush in at once, you can deal with them in turn. Whoever holds out longest wins this game, so rather than trying to end it in one stroke, focus on getting safely through today.
Seven of Wands Reversed
What appears most often in the reversed Seven of Wands is exhausted stamina. You are holding your ground, but the reason grows fainter and fainter. With no energy to push back, you start brushing things off half-heartedly and finally begin to be truly pushed out. At such times, before gritting your teeth with resolve, a good long rest and cutting down the number of things you must protect come first.
It also shows as letting go altogether. You may abandon your post, saying it is too much, or conversely give in to every demand without a word of rebuttal. Ground once given up is hard to win back. If you cannot hold on to everything, at least decide with your own hands what to hand over and what to keep.
Something to Try the Day This Card Appears
Today, pick one thing you will protect to the end and one thing you can give way on, and write each down. Try to protect everything and everything wavers. Once you resolve to give one up, the hand gripping the remaining one gains far firmer strength.
