For couples, a time to match two different strides into one. The gap where one person ran ahead and the other hesitated is filled by honest talk. Agree in advance how often to meet, how much contact feels comfortable and how much time alone each of you needs, and your hearts tire less. A new bond warms slowly, like a low flame.
Temperance: Card Meaning
Reading It Upright and Reversed
Temperance · Major Arcana No. XIV
Temperance shows an angel slowly pouring water from one cup into another. Upright, it means a time of fine-tuning, matching the amounts and speeds of different elements through steadiness rather than haste.
The card is number 14. An angel with wide wings stands beside a pool, one foot in the water and the other on land. A round mark on the brow and a triangle on the chest stand out, and although the two cups in the angel’s hands are tilted, the water passing between them does not spill a drop.
Behind the figure a narrow path winds between two mountains, and at its end a crown-like glow rises. Irises bloom at the water’s edge. This posture, moving between water and land and between two cups without leaning toward either, leads to the card’s core meaning of the right mixture, the golden mean.
When will the results of the Temperance card show?
It is not a card that gives an answer right away. Just as the angel lets water flow little by little from one cup to the other, change usually takes a few weeks, or as long as three or four months, to build up enough to be noticed. In return, it rarely reverses halfway, so a result that has taken root seldom wavers. If there is no news yet, think of it not as having taken a wrong turn but as being in the middle of pouring.
Temperance: Love
One person keeps giving while the other just takes. Mismatches in how often you get in touch or how warmly affection is shown repeat, until the tired one quietly steps back without a word. Rather than blaming the other person, count the time you put into this relationship each day, and you will see what to change.
Temperance: Money
Finances settle when divided among several pots. Rather than keeping it all in one place, set the ratio of living costs, savings and spare money, and arrange for it to split automatically on payday. It is not a time when a lump sum arrives at once, but one where money grows a little at a time without gaps, so habits formed now stay with you for a long time.
Days of scrimping and days of big spending alternate to extremes. The pattern of splurging all at once as a reward for holding back for a few days, then shutting your wallet tight again, keeps repeating. Splitting the budget into weeks instead of months calms the rebound. Take this chance to add up everything you put on instalments, too.
Temperance: Work
At work, your skill shows in roles that weave together many people’s schedules and positions. Results are good when you mediate in meetings where opinions clash or bridge teams with different ways of working. If you spend your energy smoothing the whole team’s flow instead of racing ahead alone, recognition follows naturally.
Tasks crowd into particular weeks and you become overloaded. Rushing to add people or overhauling the whole method only tangles things further. Right now, rather than taking new work, the priority is to reorder the tasks already spread out. If two jobs have overlapping deadlines, say in advance that one should be pushed back.

Temperance Upright
The message of upright Temperance is simple. Do not bring in more ingredients; change how you mix them. Right now there are many cases where you have enough, but the mixture is off and the result comes out wrong. Between paired things, such as work and rest, spending and saving, or talking and listening in a conversation, take away and add a little at a time to find the right ratio.
Change comes slowly. Instead of pouring half at once you move it drop by drop, so day to day the difference is barely visible. But since you almost never spill, after about three months you see yourself clearly changed. It is a card that shows its power in work you must carry on steadily rather than in tasks that need quick results.
Temperance Reversed
Reversed Temperance is a state where the mixing ratio has broken. Pile your time into one side and another space empties, and then to fill that space you lean the other way. Clinging to work until dawn on weekdays and not getting out of bed on weekends is that pattern. In this period, your body signals first with fatigue or pain, before your mind does.
Mixing in a hurry also belongs to this side. If you join two different things at once without time for them to settle, it looks finished on the surface but cracks appear at the seam. If you must keep the old method while bringing in a new one, allow plenty of time for both to run side by side. Just keeping the order cuts the later rework dramatically.
Something to Try the Day This Card Appears
Today, take a little away from one of two activities and give that much to the other. Taking thirty minutes from your phone to walk once around the neighbourhood is enough. The day’s total stays the same, so it is not hard, and after a few days your body notices the change first.
