Not drifting apart, but the two of you moving together. A time to fold away the topics you argued about for a while and change the stage to surroundings where both feel at ease. A trip far away or a plan to move in together may actually come to the table.
Six of Swords: Card Meaning
Reading It Upright and Reversed
Six of Swords · Minor Arcana · Swords · Six
The Six of Swords shows a scene of leaving a familiar place and crossing a river by ferry; upright, it means a time of moving to new ground without fanfare, a turning point of moving forward while still carrying hard times not fully resolved.
A small ferry cuts through the river. At the back, a ferryman pushes against the bottom with a pole, and in the front seat a woman draped in cloth and a child sit huddled, looking only toward the far shore. Six swords are lodged in a row on the bow’s floor, and no one thinks of pulling them out.
The water on the side the boat left ripples in small waves, while the water on the side it heads to is plainly calm at a glance. It is not a scene of leaving lightly after solving every problem, but of moving while carrying unresolved burdens intact. That is why this card speaks of a move that is not loud.
Is the Six of Swords a signal to leave?
It is closer to a sign that you have already set out than an order to leave. It often appears around the time your heart has half withdrawn from the old place. But it is not a scene of tidying everything and leaving lightly. Just as you cross the river with swords lodged in the bow, you go carrying unresolved matters, so if you pick in advance only the baggage to take along, the process of moving itself goes smoothly.
Six of Swords: Love
You cannot pull your feet out of a bond that has ended. You cannot delete their number or keep visiting the café you two often went to, only wearing your heart down. Rather than a grand resolution, gradually changing your daily routes, like your commute or regular shops, helps.
Six of Swords: Money
A flow of moving positions choosing stability over big profits. Pulling money tied up in risky places to somewhere safe, or choosing to lower your living cost structure, suits well. It may not grow right away, but it is a time when leaking money clearly decreases.
You know which expenses or contracts to wind up, but cannot lay a hand on them. While you put off cancellation because the procedure is a hassle, the money debited monthly piles up. Cancelling just one today changes the flow dramatically, so start with the smallest amount.
Six of Swords: Work
A move of company or department comes together without a sound. You hand over work without major friction, and expectations in the new role are not unreasonable. It is a position where you take and use the experience you built up, so you can put down the worry of learning again from scratch.
You have decided to move, but carrying it out is long delayed. You just keep your resume file open or keep pushing interview dates back. Rather than waiting for a perfect position to appear, submitting one application all the way through is the step needed now.

Six of Swords Upright
A real change of residence or affiliation is under way. Like packing for a move, being transferred to another team, or quietly leaving a club you attended for years, it is a change that looks like nothing on the surface but is hard to reverse. Without loud announcements or a noisy farewell party, you cross over in a way where, when you come to, you are already sitting in a new chair.
What matters here is not speed but direction. The boat is slow and the load is unchanged, yet it is clearly heading where the current grows gentle. There is no reason to delay departure because your heart is not done sorting things out. Far more often, the heart settles only after you sit in the new seat.
Six of Swords Reversed
Knowing you must leave, you cannot set foot on the boat. You put it off saying “once one more thing is ready,” or out of attachment to the familiar place you pack and unpack your bag again and again. Days continue in which circumstances neither worsen nor improve, and your energy quietly leaks away.
It is similar when your body has already crossed but only your heart is tied to the old place. You hardly get close to the new people you meet and keep comparing with the old ways. Adapting is slow, but it has not stopped. As you pile up, one by one, pleasures only the new surroundings offer, speed picks up before you know it.
Something to Try the Day This Card Appears
Today, do not strain to sort out all your baggage; take just one step toward where you want to go. Sending an inquiry email to a place you only looked into, or getting one long-neglected certificate issued, is enough. Rather than waiting for your heart to settle, if your body crosses the river first, your heart is bound to follow.
